1st place - Talacker

Urs Mühlherr, Chris Schaad and Maja Kunzelmann have been running Talacker since 2004. It has become one of the most popular restaurants in district 1, partly because of its classic noodle soups and unique drink creations.

2nd place - Die Schneiderei

Schneiderei hasn’t been a secret address for some time now. Even so, it has managed to retain the speakeasy charm that is typical of hidden venues in cities like New York and Berlin: ideally underground, exclusive and unrecognisable from the outside. To get to a speakeasy, patrons often have to pass through a private room, a Chinese restaurant or – in this case – a kebab shop.

As a free spirit, Sandra Augsburger refuses to confine herself to just one decade. In her Powder Room boutique, she sells clothing in styles from the 1920s through to the 1970s, and makes sure she always has something new for her customers to try on.

Childhood friends Mirko Lupatini and Giuseppe Moranda actually studied at the ETH, far removed from the restaurant trade. But a documentary changed their plans. The pair from Ticino decided there was a need for vegan fast food. They started from scratch – and now own a food truck.

6th place - Gleis

Couple Julia Vögeli and Lou Lipp wanted to create a place in Zurich that’s a cultural meeting place and a bar in one. Not too expensive and accessible for people who also want to put on an impromptu event. The pair brought this concept to life at Gleis – all while the building hadn’t even been built yet. The mix of stage and bar is now located right by the train tracks as part of the three building cooperative structures on Zollstrasse.
