Favourite spot: Äss-Bar

Our ‚favourite spot’ this week is Äss-Bar: Sandro Furnari and his team sell off yesterday’s baked goods at bargain prices. Äss-Bar now has eleven branches in Switzerland, but the original store opened in the heart of Niederdorf.

A croissant for 50 centimes? No problem at Äss-Bar! It’s the place to buy baked goods that are left on the shelves when local bakeries and confectioners close for the day – at bargain prices. Even before sustainability became such a hot topic, Sandro Furnari and his team caught people’s imagination when they decided to try to reduce food waste.

The two founders of The New New have felt the impact of the trend for decluttering. That’s because, in their shop in district 6, Michèle Roten and Lucy Prader only sell clothes that people no longer want. This includes everything from designer blazers to fast fashion shirts.

Cervo Volante

In Switzerland, around 12,000 deer are killed every year. Generally speaking, only the meat is consumed. ‘That’s absurd,’ believes Kadri Vunder-Fontana. The chemist is the co-founder of shoe brand Cervo Volante, which uses the hides of these wild animals after they have been killed. The first collection is now available to buy from the label’s own store in Neumarkt.

Flohmarkt Kanzlei
